In our primary school, Music is a way to praise and worship God, as it allows us to express joy, gratitude, and love through song and sound. Our Catholic faith teaches us that music is a gift from God, given to uplift our spirits and bring us closer to Him. Through music, we celebrate God’s beauty and presence in the world, and we learn to use our voices and instruments to share His message of hope, peace, and love with others. Music helps us to experience and express the divine in a way that touches our hearts and brings us together as a community.

At St. Peter and Paul’s we believe every child is a musician. Through music, we can celebrate, rejoice and praise our Lord. Our vision is that we provide every child with a solid foundation in musical skills and that we seek to build every child’s love of music through high quality musical experiences, both within and outside of school. Learning music, develops all aspects of a child’s learning, from the physical action of using an instrument to the mathematical skills needed to keep a pulse. At St Peter and Paul’s, we provide every child with high quality music lessons, enrichment activities and opportunities outside school.

Our curriculum introduces children to music from all around the world and across generations, teaching children to respect and appreciate music from all traditions and communities. Children will develop the music skills of singing, playing tuned and untuned instruments, improvising and composing music, and listening and responding to music. They will develop and understanding of the historical and cultural context of the music they are listening to and learn how music can be written down. Our curriculum enables pupils to meet the end of Key stage attainment targets in the National curriculum.

Our Music Subject Leader is Mrs N Heaton.
