At St. Peter and St. Paul, Design Technology encourages us to use the talents and creativity that God has given us to solve problems, design, and build with purpose. It reflects the wisdom and ingenuity that are part of God’s creation, as we explore how things work and how we can improve the world around us.

At St. Peter and Paul we believe every child can benefit from designing products and solving problems; as a result of designing, making and evaluating, they are able to make better decisions, and understand more about the impact of products on the world around them. We believe that as our pupils design, and make a range of products, they will gain an appreciation for the resourcefulness and ingenuity given to man by a very creative God. Our pupils are encouraged to broaden their understanding of materials and tools, and explore how to use them most effectively for a purpose. In particular, we want our pupils to be creative, solve real problems, and acquire skills that will benefit them in life and potentially in future jobs.

The Design and technology scheme of work aims to inspire pupils to be innovative and creative thinkers who have an appreciation for the product design cycle through ideation, creation, and evaluation. We want pupils to develop the confidence to take risks, through drafting design concepts, modelling, and testing and to be reflective learners who evaluate their work and the work of others. Through our scheme of work, we aim to build an awareness of the impact of design and technology on our lives and encourage pupils to become resourceful, enterprising citizens who will have the skills to contribute to future design advancements.

Our Design and technology scheme of work enables pupils to meet the end of key stage attainment targets in the National curriculum

Our Design Technology subject leader is Mrs N Heaton.
